Business and Personal Computer Applications
Course #5050
Grades 10 – 12
Half Year, Half Credit

Course Prerequisite: It is recommend that students are proficient in using the keyboard.

Throw away your papers and pen, calculators and pencils! Using the latest version of Microsoft Office, students will become familiar with applications that are commonly used in both the college classroom and the common workplace; through the exploration of word processing, spreadsheets, databases and computerized presentations. Students will also study current trends in technological communication and networking; including website creation. The applications learned can be used for communications, business, graphic arts, science, math and engineering. The exploration of these topics will be studied and applied in an active, “hands-on” participative environment on new Dell equipment, using Microsoft Windows. It is important to note that Microsoft Office is the preferred program by most large and small companies in the USA, making it essential that every high school graduate be competent in these programs to be “marketable” in today’s highly technological world. This class concludes with a final exam that requires each student to create a portfolio during final exam week.

Members of this class may elect to take the course for 3 college credits from SUNY Farmingdale.
